Creating an own (personal) article
An own article exists only in your records and is visible to nobody else. Use it for things that do not belong or fit in the catalogue:
- something you made yourself, such as scenery or a hand-painted locomotive or wagon;
- a unique or converted item;
- an item that is not (yet) in the catalogue and that you want to keep private;
- a part you took out of a set that has no catalogue number of its own.
Do you want others to be able to use the article too? Then request it, or convert your own article later (see the bottom).
Where do you start?
- In your Collection, at the top: + Own article. After saving you continue straight to adding a purchase for this article.
- In the Dissolve set window, at an item: + Create personal article.
- You change an existing own article on the detail page of the item, next to the article name: Edit personal article.
The fields
- Article number and Variant – the number as on the box. Required (together with the description). If you have no number, use your own designation.
- Description – required. Describe what it is, so you can find it again.
- Category – for example wagon or scenery. Needed to group the article in reports, and required if you want to convert it later.
- Manufacturer – each brand appears once in the list. When dissolving a set, only brands with the same scale and current type as the set can be chosen.
- Year, Length (mm) and Note – optional. You use the length for the train length in Train set-ups.
- Value (€) per piece – the value for insurance and reports. If you leave it empty, what you paid counts.
- Self-made / not for sale – tick for scenery or your own work: there is then no catalogue value and you get no warning about an existing catalogue number.
- Photos – a silhouette (side view) and extra photos. See Photos.
Does the number already exist in the catalogue?
Then the site warns you and shows the similar catalogue articles. Preferably choose that catalogue article: prices, photos and reports then work by themselves. If it really is a different item, choose Create my own article anyway.
Converting to a catalogue article
Does your own article turn out to be interesting to everyone? Choose Convert to catalogue article at the article. It is put in the catalogue as requested, your items go with it, and your own article disappears afterwards (including your note and own value). If the article already exists, your items are linked to that article. A category is required for this.
Difference with a requested article
- An own article is seen by you only. You can change it without review.
- A requested article is seen by all members and is reviewed by a moderator.
