Sets and incomplete sets
A set is a package with several items, for example a starter set or a train set with a locomotive and wagons. In the catalogue the set itself is the article; its parts are shown on the article page under This set consists of … parts.
Buying a set
With Add purchase you buy the set as one article. The site automatically creates one item for the set and one for each part, with derived numbers. The price is with the set and counts once: the parts do not cost anything extra.
You sell a set as a whole and add own photos to it. The parts cannot be sold separately and get no photos of their own. In Layout build you place the parts separately; the set itself cannot be placed. If you want to sell a part separately, dissolve the set first.
Dissolving a set
Is the set incomplete (something is missing), or do you want to sell a part separately? Open the set in your collection and choose Dissolve set. The package disappears; the items become separate articles in your collection.
Dissolving cannot be undone. The photos of the set itself are removed with it. If you like, make them again for the separate items first.
First: scale and current type
A set has one scale and one current type (for example H0 AC). They are shown at the top of the window. If you see a message instead that the set has no scale yet, the manufacturer of the catalogue article has to be completed first. Ask a moderator or propose a change (Changing an article), then try again.
Step by step
- The table lists each part of the set on a line. Untick Present for what you do not (or no longer) have.
- For each item choose one of three ways to say what it is:
- Catalogue number – type the number, or number.variant if there are several variants.
- Personal article – choose from your own articles, or create one with + Create personal article (see Own article). The manufacturers you can choose there have the same scale and current type as the set.
- Free description – a short text, if the item is not in any list.
- Do you have extra items that were not in the set (for example a wagon that came with it)? Add a line with More lines.
- Distribute the price: the sum of the prices of all items must be exactly what you paid for the set. Spread prices makes a proposal: in proportion to the catalogue value if known for all items, otherwise equally. Change what you like.
- Choose Dissolve.
Afterwards they are separate articles, each with its own purchase number. You can now add photos and sell them separately.
Tip: not sure what was in the set? Open the article in the catalogue; under This set consists of all parts are listed.
