Trainiac

Getting started

Trainiac is a place to keep track of your model railway collection: what you own, what you paid, what you still want, which trains you put together and what is on your layout. Everything is based on one shared catalogue of articles. Your own data (purchases, sales, wishes, photos) is visible to you only.

The menu

  • Home – the start page.
  • Catalogue – search all articles. Almost everything starts here. → Catalogue
  • Statistics – counts of the catalogue by category, scale, brand, era and country.
  • Collection – your purchases and sales. → Collection
  • Wish list – what you still want to buy, with indicative prices. → Wish list
  • Train set-ups – put trains together from articles. → Train set-ups
  • Layout build – a log of what you place on your layout. → Layout build
  • Reports and Insurance – overviews, charts and a list for your insurer. → Reports

At the top right you find the question mark (this help), the cogwheel (moderators and administrators only), your profile and log out. The flags switch the site between Dutch, English and German.

Your first purchase in four steps

  1. Open the Catalogue and search for the article by number or description.
  2. Open the article and choose Add purchase.
  3. Fill in what you know (date, price, condition, where you bought it) and save.
  4. The item is now in your Collection, with its own purchase number.

Is the article missing? Then you can request it or create an own article.

Dialogs

Many actions open a window on top of the page. Close it with the cross at the top right, with Cancel or with the Esc key. The page underneath stays as it was.

More help

Every topic in this help has its own page. The detailed explanations are for purchases, sales, sets, changing articles, requesting articles and own articles.
